Having spent decades learning and teaching language, I am sensitive to how we use new media in that endeavor. Machine translation, generative AI, and other web tools make us vulnerable to learning mistakes and we must always consider the human element in communication. In addition to how to use language in practice, teachers often struggle to know the level of new students with prior instruction.
